If these refrains sound familiar, you are probably the parent of a teen or preteen. Here's a thought: Why not try putting your older child on his own budget for clothing? You can provide him with the money you would be willing to spend and have him allot it himself. Tell him how long this should last and then let him choose what to get. If there is something expensive he really wants, you can suggest he earn the money for it himself. You can go through his budget and offer advice, but remember, in the end it's his decision.

It's a great way to teach your child the value of money and how to spend it wisely. And if he's not happy with what he's bought, he will only have himself to blame.
